Starting Vista

A friend gave me his old Pavillion Slimline s3521p. using Vista.  I connected a key board and mouse, turned it home and it just sat there with a blinking cursor in the upper right corner of screen. I decided to try something I use in XP, Ctrl-Alt-Delete and it brought up a kind of safe mode screen with a menu bar to change the setup and a couple of other setup type actions.

But I cannot get Vista to load and I know the computer was used by my friend as his personal computer.

Would appreciate any suggestions for how to boot this machine.

This suddently popped up on my computer and I do not know what it is or how it got there.  I do not have a mobile phone.  The only thing I have installed on the computer is a new modem about 2 months ago.  I do not know if this (B2C) is causing my problems or not but lately I have had issues such as IE suddenly closing, being unable to upload pictures from My Pictures and other odd stuff

If it has no use for me, I would like to uninstall it and see if that fixes my issues.  What is the best way to go about this?  I am not very computer smart so need details.

thanks

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit - there are a few of the Windows features that I am trying to turn off in  'Control Panel/Programs and Features/Turn Windows Features on or off.' I keep getting the message: "An error has occurred, Not all of the features were successfully changed." I would like to turn off Games and Windows Gadget Platform.

I have tried doing this one thing at a time with no results and the same message.

I have run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r , as suggested in the Windows 7 forums - no errors or corrupt files were found.

What could possibly be the problem? Any comments, ideas or advice are welcome.

Does HP make one?  Is this a good place to store recovery disks for my new computer, or would a flash drive be better?

Installing Win 7 OEM or Digital River Download using COA on HP System

H8 1380t CTO, Intel i7 3820 processor. 16 GB DDR3, PC3 -12800 Ram. AMI bios(UEFI).
Pegatron Motherboard- IPIWB-PB (Pittsburg) Beats Audio. AMD Graphics, Radeon HD 7570 1GB. Win 7 Home Premium.

This post should help someone facing a failed factory reinstall requiring the use of a Win 7 ISO download from Digital River. I have seen many posts on failed factory reinstalls which were corrected by installing a pristine version of Windows from Microsoft's download partner.

Will try to be as concise as possible.

Using new 2.0 TB HD and Win 7 OEM kit I proceeded to install Win 7 to eliminate HP stuff. First attempt installing Win 7 OEM revealed the " missing device driver (CD/ DVD ) issue. Rebooted to setup (BIOS) and changed from RAID to SATA emulation. Obviously needed a RAID driver that is not on Win 7 install disk.

Solved the problem and installed Win 7 on new 2.0 TB drive.

Win 7 installed, but with issues. All neccessary drivers are not installed. So, I had downloaded, from HP's site for this system, all original drivers and saved on a CD. Also saved on an external USB drive, this is critical, the SWSETUP folder on original HP factory install from the original factory install HD.

Opened CD with downloaded HP drivers with the following results:

Intel Chipset driver failed to install, AMD graphics driver failed to install, Texas Instruments USB 3.0 driver failed to install, still there were no device manager errors for USB?. Point here is, the driver downloads don't always work, but the drivers in the SWSETUP folder seem to be more reliable.

Realtek network, Ralink wireless drivers installed correctly. Also, Intel rapid storage driver installed.

After successive reboots with each driver install Device Manager revealed unknown PCI simple Communications Controller issue. Could not solve problem. Googled solutions, tried installing Intel's offering after Intel scanned the system and suggested a driver. No go!!

Opened SWSETUP folder I had previously saved on USB external drive and found Intel Management Engine Installer and executed setup. It worked. Device Manager errors are gone. BTW, installed MS AMD 7570 graphics drivers and they are working.

Right now the system seem to be stable and no errors in Device Manager.

Also found, in SWSETUP, the original AMD 7570 CCC drivers. Tried installing but having a problem. Will try removing MS 7570 AMD drivers and running CCC setup again. That could be the issue.

Will update as it unfolds.

Why am I doing this? Well, installed a Soundblaster HD audio card  and that action broke the recovery environment, which ticked me off, could not use Win 7 restore, Win 7 image recovery, nor third party recovery options. As a matter of fact, if I have problems with the AMD 7570 drivers, I will remove the card and install a graphics card that will be able to receive updates from the manufacturer.

Oh, also have Win 7 recovery environment back and will can install Win 7 AIK for use with Paragon Disk Manager.

Finally, still have original HP factory install on a different HD using Beats audio. Best of both worlds!

Finally have control of this system. Yeah!!

Executed Burn In Test for 2 hours. System passed. Looking good!

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help? I purchased a hp pavilion 20-b101ea with Ubuntu as the operating system with the intention of adding windows 7 to dual boot. I have had real problems and have now discovered that I cannot find any of the drivers for windows 7 anywhere! I am at a loss to know what to do next. I am seriously considering selling it and having to buy 1 with windows 7 pure installed. Does anyone have any ideas how I can find the right drivers? Thanks

I have an HP Pavillion LP019AV#ABA with Windows 7 64bit.  I keep getting these error messages: Error 1133 and Error 1 as well as Contact HP about this "Unable to find Adobe PDF" resource files.  c:\program Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\settings\*.joboptions" must have administrator priveleges.  Please contact local system Administrator.

This all started with an update that kept saying that it may have been installed by another application. (?)  I decided to see if I could do a repair but I had trouble finding this and mistakenly uninstalled the software.  I do not have the software disc to reinstall, so I tried to do a system restore to an earlier time.  It installed the software but apparently not completely and I am am utter stuck as to repair this on my own.  I am not employed at present and I need this program badly.

Therefore, if I unistall the program again, can I recover the software from the device manager or recovery manager.  PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you

Unable to use Recovery Manager on HP Pavilion Elite HPE-112y PC Windows 7

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-112y PC.
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium - 64-bit.

I'm having problems with my Recovery Manager. A few days ago it was working fine. The other day when I tried to access either the "Software Program Reinstallation" or the "Hardware Driver Reinstallation" to check something out, both my DVD and BD drives opened and a message popped up saying:

This system does not have a recovery partition. The recovery process needs to use the set of recovery discs you created previously. Please insert disc #1 now.

I did not create any such recovery discs. I don't know how this happened. When I looked at the "I'd like to take precautions" section of the Recovery Manager, the "Recovery Disc Creation" and the "Remove Recovery Partition" are grayed out, but the "View Recovery Report" is still active and there is some kind of report in it. I don't know what the report means.

I did ask for advice somewhere else and was asked to post a screenshot of my Disk Management from the Computer Management. After seeing the screenshot, I was told that my recovery partition is there and in good health and there is a possibility that something is preventing the recovery process from seeing it.

I'm asking around for advice before I try anything. I want to be very cautious before I do anything drastic.

Is there a chance that I can find my Recovery Partition and restore it? Or will I have to do a full System Recovery to get it restored?

===============

I'm not trying to make any changes yet, but I thought I would take a look at the System Recovery in the Recovery Manager. When I click the System Recovery button this is what I see.

Restore your computer to its original factory condition.

Your computer does not have a Recovery partition.

If you want to continue the restoration process, make sure you have inserted disc #1 and then click "Yes" to continue, or click "No" to exit.

Is this going to be a problem if I need to restore my system?

Nonprofit seeking MS License help

I am working for a non profit that is trying to set up a computer lab to help people with autism learn to communicate via software.  The software needs windows.  The computers that are being donated to us are old Pentium 4's and I don't think they will be able to run windows  very well.

I need to find some MS licenses for 10 computers.  I can't find any XP or VIsta which would be ideal.

No idea where to get this stuff, I have combed the internet and can't find anything but oem (not legal) or upgrade (won't work).

Please help, they won't donate the computers unless we supply OS and I don't know where to get 10 of the same ones that will work on p4's and run the autism software.

Thanks for any help

Recovery Manager Disarray

During the process of a system recovery,  I was prompted with the option to save various files.

I had already gone through the system with Puppy Linux, and manually saved various crucial files, but I was hoping to save some mail, and particularly the mail settings from the Windows Mail client.  So, when presented with the option, I selected only "mail" to be saved  during the HP recovery process.  It was saved to a USB flash Drive.

Have completed the recovery, I now have the saved files, but am lost on how to restore whatever was saved in this back up file.  I was able to get the file opened, but they are all  eml. and .dbx files, sitting in recovery folders in my C .

The posts I've read on this subject, all appear to be regarding upgrades from older clients, ie Outlook Express, or to newer Windows 7 or 8 clients . Mine are simply files saved from the Vista Win mail recovery process, to Vista  win mail.

How to make a dual boot system (Windows 7 and Red Hat Linux) on Z820?

Hello, I have a HP Workstation Z820 running Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise. It also comes with drivers for Red Hat Linux Enterprise. What is the simplest way to set up a dual boot system between Windows 7 and RH Linux Workstation 64-bit? Is there a step by step guideline? Over 10 years ago, I used Partition Magic and Boot Magic. It was very easy to make the partition and set up a dual boot system. However, the software company has been out of business for several years. Any simple to use software that I could use? Thanks.
