HP Installation code??

A friend gave me this PC 2 days ago. And with it came a piece of paper that he wrote himself. It was a paper with a 24 digit code. And at the top of the paper, it said “HP Pavilion installation code: windows 7 home 32 bit. There was a Windows install on the PC until it blue screened one time. Now windows stopped working. So I tried to use my installation disc to reinstall windows 7 32 bit. Though I later found out that files were missing from the disc. And so I was wondering if this code could be used to reinstall windows by any chance. But without my disc.

Recovery file in Recovery Partition is missing its icon.

Hello, I own an 11-year old HP Compaq Presario SR5410F. It originally ran Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium Edition which I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 32-bit.

I always had a Recovery Partition on Drive D: --- The capacity of the partition is 9.16GB, and, 7.96 is occupied with 1.20 free.

When you click on the D drive you would see one file. It was the Recovery File and it was identified with an icon that resembled a hard drive.

After upgrading to Windows 7 this image didn't change.

I was browsing my computer to look for files to delete to gain some space. I found something new to me under Favorites called, Recently Changed.

I looked it up online to see if it was safe to delete the contents, since, there was a lot of listings when you clicked on it.
I found a discussion thread that reassured the person asking that it was perfectly okay to deleted the references in that location, so, I started to delete them on my machine.

One was a reference to the D partition. Well, after I did that, I clicked on the D: drive and it showed an empty drive; i.e., no files or folders to list.  Also, because I didn't think I was doing anything wrong, I emptied the Recycle Bin soon after deleting the reference.

I immediately clicked on the drive in the left pane of the browser window and selected, Properties. The amounts of used and free space were exactly the way they should be.

Also, I temporarily changed the View Options to show hidden system files and a series of files and folders were displayed. So, I don't think anything is really missing from that partition.

I then installed a freeware version of Recuva Uninstaller and it found the item that was deleted. I restored it but it no longer looks like a hard drive. It has a basic plain sheet of paper with the upper-right corner bent down as the icon.

When I open the file in Notepad it produces this information:

N¯ Ð[n7ÃgÔD : \ R E C O V E R Y

The file that was recovered is named, $IQ5OEUW.

First off, why would the OS allow me to delete anything from that Recovery drive?

Second, is this file named above the Recovery File I am interested in preserving?

And lastly, is it now corrupt?  Did the undelete program fail to interpret it and its associations accurately?  How can I restore its original look and integrity?

Now for the bad news - I don't have backups.  I always had a set of Recovery Discs when the computer ran Windows Vista.  Plus, Vista Home Premium Ed. did not provide the ability to perform a system backup.

I know the machine is now running Windows 7 and that the Recovery Partition is not essential anymore, especially if I make a System Backup and a Repair Disc under 7, which, I assure you, I am definitely doing very very soon.

Its the principle of the thing; it bothers me and I want it back to normal just so that I always have that option of performing the factory install if need be.

Can someone help me to understand what happened and how, if possible, I can get that file to appear the way it should and operate the way it should?

Thank you so much.

Hi,

The hard drive of my Pavillion crashed recently. I bought a new one and installed it (visible in Bios, so ready to re-install OS etc), but I don't find my recovery USB anymore that I made when I bought the Pavillion 5 years ago.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

Recovery Drive Swapped SSD and HD, All Files from "Data" Drive are Gone

Previously, I had a Windows (C:) drive, and a Data (D:) drive.  The C: drive was my SSD, the D: drive was my HD.  I brought the PC to a new work location (no network connections) and when I booted up the PC, I had Windows (C:) and Recovery Image (D:).  Now, the C: drive is nearly 1 TB, indicating that it is now tied to my HD, and I cannot find any of the files that were previously on the "Data" drive.  I did not request a backup to be made and now a huge volume of my work files are inaccessible.  Is there a way I can get them back?  I'd also prefer to have the original configuration where the C: drive is the SSD.

Thanks!

Connection to FTP Server is not possible

We are recently trying out Hp Device Management and therefore built a virtual machine (Windows Server 2012).

We have installed the HP Device Management on the virtual machine and connected it to a Thin Client. Both are in

seperated ip-adress networks.

We configured our way through the installation of the Device Management and had to integrate a FTP Server.

Our FTP Server has the same IP-Adress and is a directory on our virtual machine. The Thin Client is able to connect

with the FTP Server and you can see the Data in it.

The Problem is the configuration of the File Transfer between HP Device Management -> FTP Server -> Thin Client.

The configuration says it couldn't find any FTP Server, but for remote configuring of many Thin Clients you need to

integrate this feature.

Is there any problem in our infrastructure or architecture?

Maybe the FTP Server is not allowed to use the same IP as the 'Management Server' with the HP Device Management Software?

Keyboard & Mouse not working during Windows 7 install

Hi everyone.

I purchased an all-in-one unit and am trying to install Windows 7 on it (Business software that only works with Win7)

I have managed to get to the install screen by disabling secure boot and enabling legacy devices but when I get to the 'Install Windows' screen my keyboard and mouse do not work.

I have tried a wired keyboard and mouse and ensured that I am using the USB2.0 ports on the back.

I definitely need Windows 7 so hoping someone can assist with getting the USB ports working during the installation process.

Please let me know if any further information is required, thankyou .
