This is new behavior since the upgrade, had absolutely no issues waking up from sleep (even after overnight) with Windows 7. No hardware has changed recently.

 

I have turned off "hybrid sleep" and "wake timers" in my power settings in case those are an issue, but it had no effect. The computer is still powering down and says it did not properly shut down when I start it (which takes several minutes, what a pain to do that most mornings and evenings).

 

Anyone have ideas? Not enjoying the Windows 10 FREE DOWNGRADE. A very frustrating week.

 

Unfortunately HP does not provide Windows 10 drivers for my PC. I have updated everything via Windows update.

 

I don't know how to read the dump files to determine if a specific driver is causing the mysterious power off but I would like to solve it so I don't have to revert back to Windows 7.

 

Please help! Microsoft forum has not been helpful so trying here now.

Set to reboot safe boot under Win 8. Set to minimal. Clicked on restart nothing happened.

Says receiving power but no signal to monitor, disk not lighting,n/w card lights amber. Everything connected.

I have Windows 7 64 bit on my computer.  Following a thunderstorm it was necessary to "restore" my computer.  Everything was intact but for some reason windows 2000 also appeared on my computer following the restoration.  How can I safely remove windows 2000 without doing anything to my computer such as losing data, etc.  Unfortunately with windows 2000 my Norton has disappeared and I have been informed that I need to remove windows 2000 and then reinstall Norton.  Thanks for your help.

I'm selling my HP Pavillion p7-1400t desktop computer, so I went through the process of transferring my data to my new machine, and factory reset.  In Windows 10 (64-bit) I chose the option to reset to factory settings, as well as delete all data.  I also chose the option to clean the disks since I'm selling it.  It went through the process and everything seemed fine so I stopped watching it once it started to slowly raise the percentage of completion (this was over several hours).  The last percentage I saw it at was around 70%, when the next time I looked at it the monitor was dark.  I figured that I had to move the mouse or hit a key to wake it back up, as it was possibly done but this didn't work.  I gave it 2 more hours to see if it would sort itself out, and at this point I knew something was wrong, so I tried shutting down the computer and still the problem continued.  There is no signal to the monitor, although the computer turns on fine. The monitor is connected via DVI and the monitor is a HP W2072a.

 

Things I've Tried:

 

• Using a different cable
• Using a different monitor
• Connecting to the onboard DVI rather than the graphics card (Nvidia GT630) DVI
• Connecting via HDMI
• Blindly trying to reset the BIOS
• Checked internal connections

 I suspect it may have something to do with video drivers but don't know how I would install them without seeing what I'm doing.  This is certainly an issue with the machine rather than the monitor.

 

This is not a matter of data recovery, but a matter of restoring a fresh install of Windows so the computer is ready to sell. Thanks!

Hi!

I have HP Pro 3500 Microtower PC that came with 64-bit Win7 Pro OEM. I have an old DOS software that works only in 32-bit Windows and I installed OEM Win7 Pro 32-bit. Now I need to activate it. I have a SN, PN and Win CD key. However, activation can't be completed.

 

I called Microsoft and they told me that a key is locked and it is possible to activate this 32-bit OS version only with help from HP. 

 

Could you help me please to activate this 32-bit OEM Win7 Pro?

I was recently forced to log back into my account due to some kind of error, and it has wiped my Internet browsing history. I wish to be able to observe my temporary internet files, or whatever other listing of every URL I have visited on this computer, that I have possessed for precisely three months. I would like to know the precise procedure to do this.

[edit] I have tried everything possible to get the PC to work with no luck. I just ran hardware diag and got smart test error 303. I guess I will need a new HDD. I was getting errors and crashes from time to time before now anyway. A sure sign of the HDD failing. Thats the way it goes I guess.

Windows 10 upgrade issue from Windows 8

 

HP pro 3515 series MT

I did the upgrade as directed. Everything seemed to work OK. Then one day I no longer had the use of anything on my task bar and Start Button

 

To fix this, I did a restore to a date before the problem. I backed up all of my data, and tried to recover windows. That failed.

 

Next, thinking that a clean install of 10 would fix everything, I went on the Microsoft Website and downloaded Windows 10 to a flash drive. Rebooted and started the install.

 

The error message below is where I am at. And not a happy camper.

 

On  the Windows set up screen I selected Drive 0 / partition 2 OS/ primary

 

I did not choose to format... just went to next.

 

The error message: "windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table  on EFI system. Windows can only be installed to GPT disks. "

 

What does this mean? If I wipe the drive, will I be able to install Windows 10? And If I install windows 10 after wiping the drive, will it be recognized as Genuine ?

I looking for support on how to factory rest the MSM controller 760 using the CLI, I conducted all the directions from the guide. 

 but these steps dont reset the default settings, it keeps going back to the setup. need help! Please

 

heres the steps I took, but after step completes , it reboots  but not to factory defualt - can any boby help?
1. Power off the controller.
2. Connect a serial cable to the controller console port as follows:
 For the MSM730, and MSM750, see the relevant section in Appendix B: Console ports.
 For the MSM760, see the MSM760 Controllers Installation and Getting Started Guide.
3. Configure a communications terminal program such as Microsoft Hyperterminal for Windows or Minicom for Linux as follows:
 Terminal: VT-100 (ANSI)
 Speed: Set speed according to the controller model:
 For the MSM730 and MSM750, set speed to 115200 bps.
 For the MSM760, set speed to 9600 bps.
 Data bits: 8
 Stop bits: 1
 Parity: none
 Flow control: none
4. Open an appropriately-configured terminal session.
5. Power on the controller. System boot messages appear.
6. Do not press any keyboard keys. Wait for the LILO prompt to appear. It looks like this:
LILO 22.1 boot:
Important As soon as the LILO prompt appears, tap the keyboard space bar to prevent the automatic (non-factory-default) boot from continuing. You must tap the space bar or other key within four seconds of the prompt appearing.
7. At the LILO prompt, type the command linux factory and press Enter. The boot with factory defaults begins.

The CyberLInk DVD Premium/Power2Go/LabelPrint/Power Director Suite software that had been purchased preloaded on the desktop did not make it through a Win 10 upgrade.

I deleted what remained and attempted to reload all (4) via Recovery Manager/SoftThinks app - these appeared to be available and to download convincingly but no evidence of them after finish and restart.

How can I recover?

I need to reset my pc and from what I've read I pressed the F11 and then it took me to a blue screen that is asking me for a password. I'm not sure what it is. When I turn on my pc, it retstarts on its own over and over without me doing anything.

Computer will not turn on. Sounds like it is starting, but screen won't turn on and computer stops making noise, doesn't sound like it running anymore. But the power light stays on. Already plugged and unplugged all power cords and power strip, still nothing. Worked fine yesterday.

HI,

I bought a pvilion 23-q168d few days ago everything was running good. Hp assistance showed bios update that i did. and after updating my ati radeon is not working. when i uninstall ati drivers its working smooth with built in intel graphics. but as i again install ati driver i cannot run any game and its giving error. I tried to reset my pc still same problem exist. i gave a clean reset. now what i do. I dont know the stock bios version so i could try to see if it fixes the problem. Please kindly help me out. If i do recovery from the image came with hp will it help? and if i recover will my other drives be deleted as i created new drive. plz kindly help!

I asking for a friend who is not computer savy.  The computer has not been used for about 3 yrs and she has forgotten password.  She did not make a password disk and she was not given recovery disks for the pc when purchased. 

 

So based on my research the only way is to reinstall windows.  But I need to purchase recovery disks for the pc.  I was not sure if purchasing from disks from company I do not know would work.  I do have the serial number of the pc. 

 

Any help would be appreciated.

I posted a msg regarding a possible IRQ problem and missing internet connection.  Received a PM to call a number, did so and worked with a person from Skyfill who told me my warranty was expired.  My computer shows that I have 6 months left but the help person disputed that; so I paid for assistance to get computer internet connection fixed.   How do I dispute the warranty coverage?

A message indicated I had a printer cartridge jam. I ran the test and it failed to resolve. The printer in fact is working. It has very low ink in the color cartridge is all. The black cartridge is almost full. I print in black and white with no problem.

 

I kept deleting the message in HP Support Assistant. I am able to print in black and white using the black cartridge. If the color cartridge is unable to be aligned properly maybe it is because it is low on ink? black cartridge is over half full.

 

Every time I did this the yellow triangle with explanation continued to appear in the task bar.

 

I got to the point I even tried to just uninstall HP Support Assistant but by the end of the uninstall an error was found and the system reversed it's uninstall and in fact put the program back in.

 

I was able to check computer messages that were new after turning off printer and disconnecting from pc for 15 seconds then reconnecting and powering printer back up. I selected the four messages to remind me in a month, so now the HP Support Assistant explanation mark is gone.

My hard drive failed completely and was unrecoverable. I replaced the HD and reinstalled Windows 8.1 and it activated correctly. Windows prompted me to upgrade to Windows 10 which I tried and after it installed it refused to activate saying it doesn't have a valid digital license. It give the error code 0x803F7001. When I tried to activate over the phone it said that it was already activated on another device. Then it connected me to a Microsoft agent and he said that the Windows OEM key installed with the PC is not valid for it to activate Windows 10 and I needed to contact HP for a proper KEY for it to allow activation.

Since the PC is out of waranty there is basically no way to contact support without paying which I feel is wrong in this situation. This is the first time I am trying to upgrade to the Windows 10, and I have the BIOS Windows 8 Product Key from the machine.

I can not find any help on how to solve this issue.
