restoring backed up files

I'm stuck!  I have a Compaq Presario 5113WM with 32-bit Win Vista and the AMD 64x2.  I tried to install drivers for the Micro Innovations keyboard, rebooted, and couldn't get my keyboard or mouse to function anymore.  I used system recovery to restore the Vista to its original condition, and during the recovery, I backed up all my personal files to ten DVDs by following the prompts.  OK.  Now, I've got the system restored but cannot find a way to restore the ten DVDs-worth of personal files.  When I look at the DVD in file explorer I see an executable: backup1.exe.  In spite of being permitted to run in Vista, it does not run. How does one return these files to the hard drive?

Or, I would be happy if I could just get at the individual files in the backup DVDs without returning them to the hard drive.

THANKS!
