Can Recovery Disks from laptop work with desktop?

Hi.

I recently had a Hard Drive die on me on a recently purchased refurbished computer.  It's the HP P6-2327c Desktop. I purchased a Western Digital Blue 1TB for it.

I also have a HP Laptop, the Pavilion dv6-1230us.  It came with  4 DVDs to reinstall Windows 8 and Media.

My question is, can I use those DVDs for my Desktop? (My desktop was running Windows 8.1 64 Bit, so I can upgrade again through the Windows Store app).

Or will I have to buy separate DVDs for my Desktop?
