When I tried to open Microsoft Works, which was part of the original HP Vista software, I got a "missing files, can not load" error and it would not open. I tried running set-up.exe from the MS Works folder in program files (x86), but nothing happen.
Foolishly, I found advice that said I should uninstall it, and did so, thinking I could re-run the setup program. But, the files in (x86) under Microsoft Works were deleted (appearently completely as I can't even find them in the recycle bin). I tried doing a system restore to a time before the uninstall (2 days before), but it failed, and I only have a aw.dll file in the Works directory that used to have setup.exe and a bunch of files.
I made recovery disks from my original system, but I have many programs that I no longer can find the original program disks for, so I don't want a wipe and reformat solution. Are there CAB files that I can access, on the recovery partition or the recovery disks that I can extract the MS Works files from, and re-install? I have done similar things in the past, as I was a programmer for many years.
Or, is there somewhere on Microsoft's web site or hp's web site that I can get the installation file set to restore?
I do still have a restore point for the uninstall, and I will try that - perhaps it saved the files that are missing?
Any help would be appreciated.
