Have a 64 bit Wondows 7 Home Premium on an HP Omni 120-1123w. It freezes on startup in normal boot and safe mode boot. I get the 'Windows is loading files', as the horizontal bar fills from left to right. When the bar is full the screen goes dark for a second, then the 'Starting Window' phrase appears. And that's it. No converging balls. It does the same thing if I boot from a DVD (after I get the msg about pressing any key to boot from disk). It does the same thing when I boot from a flash stick on which I've installed Windows 7. It even does the same thing when I hit escape for the Startup Menu and then press F11 for System Recovery.
I don't care about saving anything on the PC. Obviously something is corrupted somewhere. I just don't know where. I have set the BIOS to default levels. I have used F2 off the Startup Menu to run diagnostics.
- CPU Test - passed
- Hard Drive Connection Test - passed
- Boot Test - passed
- S.M.A.R.T Test - passed
- Memory Test - passed
I then ran some sort of HDD test in the BIOS called a DPS Self Test. It ran for a long time, but ultimately passed.
When the screen freezes, any peripherals lose power. Any lights on the keyboard go out. If I boot from a flash drive, the flash drive goes dark.
