I just received this computer a HP Envy 700qe. My first task was to upgrade from win 8.1 to win 8 Pro. I have the Win 8 Pro Dvd and license key.
I quickly discovered that if went the easy way "add feature" i had to buy a product key for the upgrade ($99) and if I installed from the DVD, I could not do a "in place install" only a clean install that would wipe out all the programs that came with the PC.
I also read that the license key that came with the computer might be hardware coded.
Is there a method to save the installed programs and settings ( Recovery ?) ?
Clean install win 8 Pro and then realod the programs and is there a danger in going with a new license key ?
Anyone had experince with this?
