Windows Vista not installing on new hard drive

So my hard drive in my HP Pavillion a6742p died.

I have windows vista 64 recovery discs from hp.

Bought a new hard drive today. It's a western digital wdbh2d0010hnc-nrsn.

When I try to install the discs, it gets through all 3 discs and right at the end it says, "Cannot configure windows on this hardware."

I read that one way to fix it was to change it in BIOS from RAID to AHCI. I did that, and then tried to reinstall. Still the same message, I am now trying ITE and reinstalling it.

I've read that it's because the drive has newer technology that some of the older computers can't deal with. Is there a way to make this work? Or do I need to get a new motherboard/processor?
