I was just making sure that all the Windows 8 drivers were updated on my Envy 23 AIO (23-k027c) before upgrading to Windows 8.1. When I try to update the chipset (Intel Chipset Driver; sp61827.exe), the system hangs on reboot. The text on the blue screen is "...1 of 16..." I've let that run for about 30 min with no change in the value, it is still on '1'. I then power down by holding the power switch until the system shuts down. On restart, there is nothing particularly unusual other than there may be a little more time involved, but no screens indicating an update. So, I'm left in the dark about the status of the chipset update.
I'm reluctant to proceed to the upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 until I have some clarity on this part...any advice?
Also, I need to make a recovery file on an external drive. I thought I knew how to do that, but searches lead me down some obscure alleys. Please advise.
