I have a new Envy Desktop 700-074 running 8.1.
I have a 7 year old Pentium Pavilion that was running out of steam with new programs that needed a 64 bit OS and more memory.
So I got the envy.
I like to image the whole drive to an external drive once a month via a USB connection via a USB 3.0 adapter.
I like the Acronis 2014 True Image program.
The program can run off a bootable cd or it can be installed in the computer.
When run in the computer the computer has to restart after the program installs a boot level program.
After I did this the computer went to a black screen and would not start. Had to call HP.
I removed the program and decided to use the bootable cd.
Wouldn't see the cd because of the secure boot.
With the help of HP I was able to go into legacy boot and get Acronis to run but it warned me that my target drive would not boot because it was formatted in MBR and not GBT.
So I reformatted the external drive to GBT but it seems on reboot the computer went back to secure boot.
On my Pavilion I was able to have the computer to try to boot first on the cd drive and then automatically try the first hard disk.
I seems that the Legacy boot can only boot one time on only one device before it returns to secure boot.
Is there a way to have the computer stay in legacy mode and to try in order the cd drive and then the hard disk?
