No "Use Word 2010 Starter" button after followng HP instructions to uninstall. Now what?

I have an HP Pavillion desktop (p7-1010) running Windows Home Premium 64 bit. It came with Microsoft Word 2010 Starter edition installed, which I have used without problems since I bought the PC (new).

A couple of days ago, I started getting a message that WINWORDC.exe was downloading a required feature and to not be surprised if Word seemed not to be responding. Sometimes, the message would say there was a problem with the Internet connection so retry.

I found and followed the instructions at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c02981221#N301 that told me how to attempt a repair. The repaor didn't work. After that, I couldn't run Word starter at all--the opening banner would hang and say Downloading Microsoft Word Starter 2010 (99%). That message never went away.

I rebooted a few times to be sure.

The HP page also gave instructions for how to uninstall the Starter edition -- with a warning that you needed to be sure the Office manager was installed -- and then reinstall. Since the manager was installed on my PC, I uninstalled and then, when I followed the instructions on how to re-install, the button I was supposed to click (something like "Use Word 2010 Starter" was not there.  Now, I have no way of using Word -- starter or otherwise.

I assumed the HP instructions were good. Guess not.

Any suggestions?
