my 64 bit laptop died until I can afford to buy another one I wanted to use my recovery disk from it to upgrade a 32 bit desktop I also have. The 32 bit desktop shows it is 64 bit capable yet the recovery disk will not work and state I must contact HP????
Have tried to find the information on support but no luck. I currently have three desktops all HP's 2 are running Windows 8 at 64 bits. When my laptop died which was also a HP running at 64 bit Windows 7 I wanted to restore the 64 bit Windows 7 from it to a 32 bit Windows 7 HP 5850. The 5850 has a AMD chip in it same as the laptop so I figured I up it to 64 bit using the recovery disk from the laptop.
I checked the 5850 and it shows that it supports 64 bit (AMD Athlon x2), as the laptop is dead this cannot be a copyright thing ( when I replace the laptop it will have it's own version of windows) using the OS from it on another PC should be no problem.
So what else can be stopping it from restoring from the disk? I even used MS support assistant to see if this PC could go to 64 bit and it had no problem with it.
