Hi. My father is running Windows 8 on an HP Pavilion p6. This morning he reported that he was unable to get past the login screen, and stated that there were "a lot of pop ups", earlier in the week, but I'm afraid I don't have much more background information.
When I logged on this evening I saw the initial error message "Cannot display this video mode. Optimum resolution 1680 x 1050 60hz".
If I repeatedly press f8 I can bring up the Windows login screen, but when I try to log in the screen starts flashing.
If I then alt-shift-del I can bring up the restart button and by holding shift I can get to the Options/Troubleshooting menu as detailed in this site's Windows 8 Safe Mode instructions.
However, if I restart from Advanced Options/Startup Settings, I return to the "Cannot display this video mode" message, and am unable to progress to selecting Safe Mode. I find the same problem with any of the Advanced Options, as all require a restart.
Can anyone suggest what I might try from here?
