I press the Esc key and nothing happens. After a bit the fan starts working realy hard.
We had a virus on our computer and want to wipe the hard drives.
My second question is if we do a recovery will both the SSD and HDD be wiped?
I'm trying to restore my computer to factory settings. I go through all the steps, but when it restarts there's a page asking about my keyboard settings. I am unable to go any further because both my keyboard and my mouse are inactive. How can I go forward and complete the restore?
I purchased a new HP 550 desktop. The hardrive has WIN 10 installed. The old HP hardrive was running with WIN 7.
Will I be able to access the old hardrive as a drive on my new computer if I put it into a slot internally? How does this work? Does it just pop up as a separate drive in Win explorer? Will the fact that it is a bootable drive create a problem?
Sorry, never took geek courses...have learned by doing...
Hello,
I have recently upgrade my HP 8300 Small Form Factor Desktop from WIndows 7 to Window 10. I need to access my system in BIOS and have had trouble do so. I need to acces my system BIOS in order to enable Intel VT-x so I can create a Virtual Ubuntu 12.04.5 using VMWare Workstation.
Here Is what I Know:
-My system does not have UEFI settings when I restart the computer while holding shift then go to "Trouble Shooting > Advance Options.
- Pressing Keys like esc, F1, F2,F9 - F12 do not take me to the BIOS. Instead they take me to the following menu;
------Esc: Start Up Menu
------F2: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
------F9: Please Select Boot Device Menu
------F10: Hewlett - Packard Computer Set Up
------F11: System Recovery
-My BIOS mode is Legacy according to my system info application.
- I have an Intel Core(TM) i5-3570 CPU running at 3.4 GHz
My questions are:
1. What course of action should I take to access MY BIOS to enable Intel VT-x?
2. I'm considering flashing the system BIOS due to the Legacy BIOS mode. Am I wrong?
3. Is there any other way to enable Intel VT-x without accessing BIOS?
If anyone can help I will greatly appreciated. Thank You!
Greetings,
I'm currently experiencing some issues with my operating system. I need to change some settings in the bios of my P6-2310EF but a password is asked.
I read a few posts on this forum and it seems that the password is factory set. Is there a way to get the password for this model of Pavilion?
Thanks in advance,
Best regards

When Microsoft offered free window10, I got it. 3 weeks ago I had computer problems and reset computer to original factory settings (windows 7) How can I reinstall window10 free!
"HP Connection Error message: Google Chrome cannot display the web page" has been coming up sporadically and randomly the last couple of days. No known changes, updates, or new software added recently. Using Windows 10 upgrade for several months and current on updates.
It appears that HP Support Assistant is trying to find and fix the problem, but I am hesitant to do so with the warning about bogus HP Support problems. It seems that could be an open invite to access my laptop should I use it.
Since this message is so random, I haven't any idea of the cause.
Appreciate any help provided.

I have recently been having issues with my PC. and I have been getting calls from an 800 number that i responded to and it took me to an HP number. I made a note of this number and added it to my contacts. I was called again this morning from this number and I answered it. Was told my computer had been notifiying HP of an Hack of my computer and that I should with this persons help be able to fix it. He informed me that there was a file built into the operating system that did the notifications to HP when the computer was compromised. I was on the computer for quite some time before there was a request for a $300 Itunes card that would enable the person to clean up my computer. Long story short .. I said no that I thought it was a scam and I would not be giving any money to him and he said he was going to cancel my license and lock my computer. I immediately shut it down but when I rebooted I am asked for a password which I of course do not know.
I would appreciate any help in resolving this issue. Please tell me what I need to do to fix this. Thanks in advance.
I'm trying to help my Mother, she has a Compaq CQ2014 PC Desktop. it has 3 recovery discs and a supplemental recovery disc. I ordered the discs through HP to do a complete system recovery. (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit)
The 3 discs run no problem, as the system comes up it request that you load Norton and update. Next the instruction tell you to run the window updates, (that's where the wheels come off). I'm unable to run the updates and when i run the Mircosoft Update Troubleshooter it gives me a 0X80070003 Error Code.
I have internet connectivity however it will not run the updates or the Mircosoft Fixit program.
I have Comcast Internet service, the light on the back of the modem (where the CAT 5 cable connects) flashs red instead of green like the other computer hardwired to the modem.
The Supplmental Recovery disc, it is not mentioned in the instructions and doesn't appear to do anything.
any help would be appreciate
My laptop won't start windows when I switch it on - I just get a blank screen. Reading other messages here it seems that I need a system restore and that pressing F11 when I switch on the Laptop will actve this. HOWEVER, pressing F11 (either repeatedly or holding for a while) only shows me a message 'F11....System Recovery' at the bottom of the screen, I do not get a system recovery menu, no matter how long I wait.
Any ideas for how to get a system restore started?
Thanks for any help.

In May I purchased an expensive HP Pavilion 27st All In One desktop computer along with the HP 2 year 3 day on site response customer care package. It has been about three months since the computer arrived and it broke. I called HP Customer Care and tech support to request an on-site visit. Instead I ended up talking to four different technicians, unfortunately I could barely understand their accents, but for hours they tried to no avail to work me through a fix. I asked each one to schedule on site service and each time I received a lame excuse why they couldn't do that. The last tech support t person was a supervisor. When I asked her why I can't get on site tech support she said she couldn't hear me could I repeat the question. This was after having a 15 minute conversation where there was no issue with hearing each other. So I started to repeat the question as to why can't I get on site service and the line was cut off, hung up. She had my phone number but no call back. She hung up on me instead of answering my question. HP promises customer care, you pay for on site service. I spent close to $2000.00 on this computer and on site care package. I have a three month old non operating computer and a tech that wont schedule on site service that I paid for. I SO REGRET BUYING FROM HP.
I got a call from HP tech support (1-800-474-6836) this morning and was told that my pc has shown in their system for virus attack. After being convinced, I agreed to give them control at www.smarturl.it/hp.123 over my pc through "run". I did not gave them my password. Afterwards I click cancel on that page and turned off the power and disconnect Internet. My computer is still down. I do not have HP support membership so I think this is a hacker call. Anyone can tell me how to make sure the controlled link is disabled and is it safe to turn on my computer again?
our HP TouchSmart 23 All-in-one was working fine until this morning. Now the screen appears to be in a constant refresh mode. It is not usable. I can see parts of the windows display but that flicker off but mostly just colors and patterns.
I don't even know where to start troubeshooting this. HP says it is not under warranty. If I try to boot from another device (CD or thumd drive) I get the same thing. I unplugged the keyboard and even the screen that show the keyboard error was flashing and scrolling to the point of almost being unreadable.
Thanks in advance!
So I couldn't run a certain game (League of Legends) because there was a problem with my DNS server or something so I went on Youtube and searched for a solution and the only solution I found was to reset my PC. So after I reset my PC the only thing I could see on my screen was the Recycle Bin and I thought I did something wrong so I did it again and still the only thing I saw was the Recycle Bin.So at first I went to check for updates and installed them all, after that I went and downloaded Google Chrome and Skype which all together took 1h. This was the firs time I have waited this long for something that small to download so I was shocked and now im stuck with a slow PC and it's taking hours to download League of Legends and im scared that I might have to buy a new PC or something
